Great post. You mentioned "teams are starting to take much longer looks at second- and third-year draft-eligible players". Makes me wonder if the NHL would consider shaving a couple rounds off the draft this year and adding a a round or two to 2022.
That is a really interesting idea, John. I think what the teams and league have learned is that the later picks are such long shots as is, it's almost better to let them go undrafted and keep an eye on them for undrafted free agency. I hadn't thought of that idea though, to give some extra run to this year's draft class. I'm intrigued and will have to think on it some more.
