Talking Hockey Sense Episode 31: World Junior rosters with NHL.com's Mike Morreale

It’s less than two weeks to the 2022 World Junior Championship. Teams are arriving in Canada today and most rosters are finalized, including those of the U.S. and Canada. On today’s episode, I took a quick look at the final rosters for both the U.S. and Canada. I also enlisted the help of my longtime friend and one of the hardest-working people I know, Mike Morreale of NHL.com.

Mike covers the New Jersey Devils, but is also is a major part of NHL.com’s NHL Draft coverage. He’s also often covering the World Juniors and will do so again this year. Morreale was in Plymouth, Mich., for USA’s training camp and provides some great on-the-ground insight about what he’s seen from the Americans as they prepare for the tournament.

We also chatted about the NHL Draft eligible players that will be competing in this tournament as there will be a lot including top prospect Shane Wright.

I also shared more thoughts on Team Canada’s roster, the controversial decisions Russia made for its final roster, the disappointment of Aatu Räty missing the tournament and how COVID-19 will continue to loom over the tournament.

I also spent a little time on the Olympics, with the U.S. naming Bill Guerin the new GM yesterday. On top of that, I shared my pessimism that we’ll have NHLers in Beijing.
